Recreation of Jasper Johns’ 1955 White Flag:

The original painting White Flag by Jasper Johns is an encaustic painting permanently on display at the MET in NYC.

The recipient of this piece is an Ohio resident renovating a 1953 truck with his father, that has always admired the original Johns piece. Using salvaged wood from the 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup for the canvas only seemed appropriate due to the original creation date. Embedding an original Cincinnati Enquirer from November 5, 1952 ... the day President Eisenhower finds out he won the election completes the sentiment of the love for the flag, resident of Ohio, and memories of the renovation with his father.

The piece was my first interaction with encaustics (wax painting) and embedding historical items to produce a deeply meaningful piece.
